When baking frozen cookie dough, you do not have to thaw the cookie dough. Simply place the frozen, pre-scooped cookie dough onto a baking sheet and bake for 2-3 minutes longer than the original recipe recommends. That’s it!
Even better, many types of cookie dough can be baked from frozen with only slight adjustments to the instructions for baking them fresh. So, go ahead and make some big batches of your favorite cookie doughs, store them in the freezer, and get ready to satisfy your cookie fix whenever you like!
To use: Defrost the unrolled cookie dough in the refrigerator overnight. You can then roll out the dough, cut out the cookies, and bake them according to the recipe’s specifications. If you’ve already cut out and frozen the cookies, simply pop them in the oven.

Preheat oven to 375 degrees Line baking sheet with parchment or silpat. Place frozen cookie dough balls on sheet about 2 inches apart. Bake for 15 minutes.
In most cases, I prefer to freeze cookie dough over freezing baked cookies. That way, you still get the nice homemade smell and softness of the cookies when they come out of the oven. But if you want to get the whole job done, you can certainly bake the cookies, then freeze them later.
To thaw frozen cookies, take them out of the container in which they were stored and spread them out until they come to room temperature. From there, you can decorate them as needed, serve them, or, if necessary, refresh them in a 325º oven for 5 to 10 minutes.
As a general rule, any cookie dough left on the counter at room temperature will be good for 2-4 hours but then may risk going bad, especially if it is already past its “best by” date.
Freeze for up to 3 months. Once you are ready to use the dough, transfer the wrapped dough to the refrigerator and let it thaw for 24-48 hours until it is soft enough to roll/slice.
How to Defrost Frozen Cookies. When you take them out to defrost, leave them in the container you froze them in. This way any condensation will form on the outside of the container, not on the cookie. This can take 1 – 3 hours depending on your environment.
